Media Recommendations
Below are recommendations for pieces of media (shows, movies, etc) that I find underrated or otherwise overlooked!!
Scavengers Reign
Scavengers Reign follows a group of survivors whose spaceship crash lands on a foreign planet. Scattered across the unknown terrain, the crew must navigate diverse ecosystems like they’ve never seen before.
If you like alien ecology, I would highly recommend this show. It is one of the most unique and complex I’ve ever seen. Also the cast of characters are complex and struggle with their own issues on top of trying to survive.
TV Show, psychological thriller/sci-fi/horror
Captain Lazerhawk A Blood Dragon Remix
What was once the U.S becomes Eden, a giant corporation with absolute control over technology and media. Dolph Laserhawk, a super soldier, must now lead a team of prisoners if he wants to survive.
Captain Laserhawk is fast paced with an animation that is kinetic, gorgeous, and full of energy. While the show contains Ubisoft crossovers, the story still stands on its own two legs, and doesn’t heavily rely on lore from its other IPs. The title is certainly a mouth full, but it is definitely worth watching this insane action pack of an adventure.
TV Show, sci-fi/action/adventure
Road 96
Road 96 is an adventure game in which you play as a teen trying to escape Petria, an authoritarian government. Each playthrough is procedurally generated, making each adventure completely unique. Every choice matters, as what you do impacts the overall story.
What I like most about Road 96 is its story, and also how each character you interact with has a connection with another in some way. The art style is beautiful and unique, as it is very painterly and feels handmade. Additionally, the soundtrack is memorable and fits the world its made for well.
Video game, adventure/narrative/exploration
Hauntii
Hauntii is a puzzle adventure game follows a ghost trying to regain memories from their past. The game offers dozens of worlds to explore, unique characters, and an intruguing scratchy art style.
Hauntii relies heavily on visuals and audo cues rather than spoken dialogue to tell its story. The soundtrack is also responsive to the player’s actions, and changes based on their actions.
Its a very tactile and hands on game that requires experimentation and trial and error.
Video game, puzzle/action/adventure
